Dear friends, 

I'm a writer from Chicago who is working on a guidebook on Illinois road biking. I'm currently looking for road biking routes in central Illinois, and I'm wondering if you or someone else in the Macomb area would be interested sharing some of the local routes with me. If I do use any routes that you provide, I'll gladly acknowledge the contribution in the book. 

 

I see there are some ride maps on the Macomb Bike Club website. I'd love to hear from some local people about which one of these rides are the best, as well as any other ride suggestions in west central IL. 



The book will contain about 50 road biking loops within Illinois. Routes can be anywhere from 10 miles to 70 miles and need to be on the road rather than on a path or a rail-trail. The book will be published in 2008 by Falcon Guides, the largest outdoor guidebook publisher in the U.S. 

 

Just a little about me: In the past decade, I've worked as a writer and editor in the Chicago region. I've done freelance writing for various newspapers, including the Chicago Tribune and the Des Moines Register. In 2005, I wrote a hiking guidebook, 60 Hikes within 60 Miles: Chicago, published by Menasha Ridge Press. I'm also a year-around cyclist and have done a number of long-distance rides in Illinois and elsewhere. 

 

Thanks very much for your help. With a little help the Illinois cycling community, we can ensure that this guidebook contains great road biking routes from all over the state.
