Touring in the Old English Tradition!

English cycle touring in the 1930s was punctuated with
many stops for food, water, tea and sometimes a pint
at the local brewpub. Scenic overlooks were an
invitation to nap in the grass and were seldom missed.
For weekend tourists, traveling light was the order of
the day and most people simply carried a change of
clothes and rain gear. Club cyclists of the 30s also
enjoyed "pass storming" and "rough stuff" cycling.
Fast forward 80 years or so and it still makes sense.

Our judgment may be questioned by modern standards but
that doesn't mean we will suffer on this tour. If you
choose to camp or if you bring an extra duffel, your
gear will be transported in to you.
Then grab your old steel three speed or internal
hub bike cruiser feeling and come along and join us as
we travel across the farm lands of Illinois. stopping
at the local brewpubs and general stores is part of
the fun . This is not about a pub crawl. this is about
the journey of Lady's and gentlemen pre world war two.
When only the rich had cars and the average working
class romped about the country side on there bikes.
stopping at the small villages, visiting and staying
with friends.
This was the weekend tourist of the time. Time was
not the issue of the day it was the scenery the lakes
the people you met. Napping in tall grass by a
lake, bird watching never missing a time to splash your
feet in the cool lake waters.
Exploring different foods and ice cream,
candies, window shopping and a smile of your friend.
So throw you fast pace life to the wind and leave the
wind drafting speed racers to there hi heart rate,
protein ,vitamin, intake calorie per carbohydrate only
to enjoy the wonders of good fun an sun, but don't
forget to bring a good rain cape for the weather is
part of the fun. The weekend tourist of the time
traveled light and usually brought only a change of
clothes.

this is a nice slow pace weekend for having fun. Lake
of the woods to clinton.
