Jeff, I propose you (since you're a key player) set a time this weekend
that we would meet at the Shelter House by the lake and we all take a
walk through the park and look at potential basket placements just to
consider the possibilities. Jim

Hello Disc Golfers.

First of all let me thank you for the great attendance at last week's
Macomb
Park Board meeting. Your attendance had impressive impact. For those
of you who missed the meeting - we spoke to them regarding building
another disc golf course (or two) located in Macomb parks. The board
responded
very favorably and we even got some good radio and print coverage of
the
efforts.

The board asked that we get in touch with the parks director (Ray) to
plan out
exactly what we have in mind and get back to them. Ray is out of town
until Thursday, but I thought I should go ahead and keep the ball
rolling.

I think the most beneficial disc golf area for all of Macomb
would be located at Glenwood and Everly parks. This is the park area
at the NE corner of US 67 and University Drive - between the cinemas
and
the country club. It has these advantages:

	- location, location, location - it is actually closer to north
quad residence halls than Sipolt is.
	- Big - plenty of room for a full 18 hole course
	- macomb's most popular park (exposure to promote DG)
	- terrain variety:
		open areas for looooong holes
woods in the gumbart woods area for tight ones
lamoine river valley for possible water hazards
big old trees (in the glenwood park portion)

The only disadvantage I see:
	- this is Macomb's most popular park - so the course must be
designed around playgrounds, volleyball courts, ball
		diamonds, etc.

Here's what I propose - lets go design a course. It won't necessarily
be the final version, but lets get local DG folks together with as
many
portable baskets as we can muster and set some holes. Lets do this in
several outings so we all have time to dream up new and amazing holes
in
between. In the later stages, we'll make sure the proposed holes meet
with
Ray's approval and also invite one (or more) folks with more course
design
experience to give it a look.

Comments? Suggestions?

-jeff
