PLACEMENT OF POLITICAL SIGNS
As we all know, campaigns are in full swing and the election season is now fully upon us. That means that many people want to show their support for candidates for political office at local, state and national levels.
The City of Macomb sign regulation ordinance certainly allows for the display of temporary political signs. There are, however, a few regulations governing these signs. The regulations are as follows:
1)The size of political signs should be not more than 8 square feet in face area:
2)Signs should not stand more than 4 feet tall;
3)Signs should not be placed on public property or in a street right-of-way area;
A street right-of-way in the City of Macomb typically begins at the inside line of the edge of the sidewalk. Therefore, any signs should be placed between the sidewalk and the home or business. If no sidewalk exists at a particular location, the sign should be a minimum of 12 feet back off the street curb or edge of the pavement.
Any signs plac!
ed between the sidewalk and the street or too near the curb or edge of pavement are illegal and, upon complaint, the property owner will be notified and asked to move the sign(s) back. Any signs found to be blocking visibility for vehicular traffic will be removed or moved back away from the street by the City without prior notification.
The public's cooperation in adhering to these basic temporary sign regulations through election day would be much appreciated. Questions about the regulations noted above or any sign complaints should be directed to the Office of Building and Zoning at 833-4944.
The City of Macomb thanks you for your cooperation.
